On 2 November, the Department of Tourism and Resorts, together with the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Zakarpattia Regional State Administration, conducted an on-site practical training on tourist safety in the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve National Nature Park. The participants visited the Uholsko-Shyrokoluzhanske HNR and the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Primeval Beech Forests".
The event was attended by civil servants, representatives of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Office in Zakarpattia Oblast, the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve National Park and mountain guides.

The training began with an introduction to the work of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve. Deputy Director Fedir Hamor shared practical and theoretical knowledge about the structure, value and biological diversity of the reserve.

The participants also watched an informational and promotional film about the peculiarities of beech forest development in Europe.

After that, experts from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Office in Zakarpattia Oblast shared recommendations for hiking in mountainous areas, described possible natural hazards and told about the specifics of tourist behaviour in the forest. The rescuers also introduced the participants to the special equipment of the mountain search and rescue team and told them about providing first aid to victims in the mountains.

The training ended with a joint excursion along the ecological trail to the Karst Bridge, a unique natural monument in the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve.


As a reminder, recently training for mountain guides was held in the Zacharovanyi Krai National Park.
