During the full-scale invasion of Russia, Transcarpathian museums continue to operate, providing services to tourists and supporting the country's economy. At the same time, these institutions are becoming a place for emotional recovery for military personnel undergoing rehabilitation or rotation in Transcarpathia.

This publication contains a list of museums in the region, which are free of charge for members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Transcarpathian Regional Local History Museum - Uzhhorod Castle

The museum's collection includes about 110,000 exhibits that introduce the centuries-old history and culture of Transcarpathia.

The museum is free to visit:

  • servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
  • employees of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (border guards)
  • employees of the National Police
  • employees of the National Guard
  • employees of the Security Service of Ukraine
  • employees of the State Emergency Service
  • combatants
  • Persons with disabilities caused by war
  • war veterans
  • Family members of deceased war veterans
  • family members of fallen (deceased) Defenders of Ukraine.

Mukachevo Historical Museum - Palanok Castle

The Palanok is a valuable monument of history and military architecture of the XIV-XVII centuries. The history of the castle and Transcarpathia is recreated in detail in the expositions of ethnography, nature and antiquities. The following people have the right to free admission (with appropriate certificates): servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, veterans of the Second World War; disabled veterans and children of war; combatants and participants of the ATO/JFO.

Transcarpathian Museum of Folk Architecture and Life - Uzhhorod Skansen

The Uzhhorod Skansen consists of architectural gems of an ancient Transcarpathian village and samples of the oldest and most common types of folk arts and crafts, and is one of the first open-air museums in Ukraine. Entrance for members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is free (with appropriate certificates).

Transcarpathian Regional Art Museum (Uzhhorod)

The museum's collection includes more than 5,000 exhibits and consists of two sections: national art of the sixteenth and twentieth centuries and foreign art of the sixteenth and twentieth centuries.

Admission for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is free (with appropriate IDs).

Lemko Manor House Museum

The museum complex in the village of Zarichevo, Uzhhorod district, reflects the life and way of life of Lemkos, one of the ethnic groups of the Ukrainian population.

Admission for the defenders of Ukraine and their families is free by appointment by calling 050 70 77 863.

Hamora Forge Museum

The operating smithy in the village of Lysychevo, Khust district, built in the early nineteenth century, is a unique monument of blacksmithing. Entrance to the museum is free for members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Old Village Museum

On the territory of the museum in Kolochava, Khust district, the village of ancient Verkhovyna has been recreated from Kolochava exhibits that introduce the 300-year history of the local inhabitants' life. Entrance to the museum is free for members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Museum of Hutsul bryndzya

The only Hutsul bryndzya museum in Ukraine is located in Rakhiv. It introduces the rich history and traditions of Carpathian cheese making. Entrance to the museum is free for defenders of Ukraine.

Audio guide "Castles of Transcarpathia".

As a reminder, an audio guide "Castles of Transcarpathia" was created with the support of the Department of Tourism and Resorts of the Regional State Administration. The route includes 12 locations, which will allow you to travel back in time, see ancient buildings and ruins of ancient fortresses.
