The Department of Tourism and Resorts of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, together with rescuers, prepared information materials for tourists on safety in the Carpathians.

Posters with the contacts of the rescue and search units of Zakarpattia and updated booklets "Safety of tourists in the Carpathians" will be placed at tourist sites, railway stations, and information stands in different districts of the region.

The information materials include recommendations on organising and conducting hiking in the Ukrainian Carpathians, safety rules for moving in the mountains, etc.

During the meeting on 20 December, the head of the mountain rescue and search unit of the State Emergency Service in Zakarpattia Oblast, Oleksandr Hulyak, the head of the Tourism and Resorts Department of the Zakarpattia Oblast State Administration, Bohdana Nosa, and her deputy, Oleksandra Horzov, discussed topical issues of tourism safety.

According to Oleksandr Hulyak, in 2022, Transcarpathian rescuers went on search and rescue missions 244 times and provided advice and support to 2639 tourist groups, totalling more than 18,000 people.

This year, rescuers continue to record violations that are almost identical for all periods and lead to emergencies. These include the lack of licences for certain types of tourist services, the provision of low-quality equipment to tourists and holidaymakers, and the lack of registration of tourists before they go on mountain routes.

Bohdana Nosa noted that the Department of Tourism and Resorts of the Zakarpattia Regional State Administration will continue to inform tourists about the available routes in the region and safety measures during their passage.
