The Transcarpathian Regional State Administration and Ukrzaliznytsia decided on the priority option for the implementation of the Carpathian Express project - the opening of the Uzhhorod - Ivano-Frankivsk railway connection.

This was stated during a meeting with the prefect of Maramures County, Mr Rudolf Stauder, and the Romanian Consul in Solotvyno, Grazian-Florin Pirvu said. Viktor Mykyta, head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration.

"Route of travel: Uzhhorod - Teresva - international railway checkpoint "Teresva - Cimpulung la Tisa" - international railway checkpoint "Dilove - Vala Viseului" - Berlybash - Rakhiv - Ivano-Frankivsk. In other words, it is a transit transport corridor through the territory of Romania on a wide gauge without transfers. The opening of this connection is focused on international travel (only with biometric passports)." - said Viktor Mykyta.

According to Viktor Mykyta, among other benefits, such as transporting agricultural products to seaports in Romania, transit of internally displaced persons from the war zone, the railway route through the neighbouring country will facilitate access for tourists from other countries to famous Ukrainian resort and recreational locations, such as Dragobrat, Bukovel and others.

The prefect of Maramures County, Mr Rudolf Stauder, said that the Romanian side would do everything possible to complete the work and connect the tracks at the BCP by the end of the year.
