Every year, on 11 November, Mukachevo officially celebrates the day of its patron saint, St Martin, with a solemn procession with lanterns to the city hall, reenactments of knightly tournaments, a festive fair, concerts, etc.

This weekend, Mukachevo celebrated the holiday by praying for Ukrainian soldiers, honouring the best winegrowers and winemakers, and holding a lantern procession in the city centre.

As reported by Mukachevo City CouncilA solemn mass dedicated to the city's patron saint was held at St Martin's Cathedral.

The faithful prayed to their heavenly patron for peace and victory for Ukraine. Hundreds of people came to the festive liturgy at the Cathedral. They all asked for intercession for our defenders.

The patron saint of Mukachevo, St Martin, is associated with the wine industry, so it is symbolic that the professional day of wine producers is celebrated on the second Sunday of November.

This year, winemakers traditionally sprinkled wine on the ground. This tradition is repeated every year as a thank-you for a good harvest and with the hope of a good year ahead. 10 winemakers received certificates from the City Council: Tiberiy Bortyk, Mykhailo Cherepanya, Oleksandr Garnovdi, Yosyp Mashika, Ivan Pauk, Vasyl Feher, Anna Hehedosh, Milan Berinets, Ivan Redey and Slava Drohobetskyi.

This year, the feast of the patron saint of Mukachevo was held without mass events, but residents of Mukachevo made traditional lanterns and marched with them in the city centre.
