This weekend we will celebrate important holidays for Ukrainians: August 23rd – the Day of the State Flag of Ukraine, and August 24th – Ukraine's Independence Day.
On this occasion, we have prepared a selection of events dedicated to the celebration of these dates.
Thank you to the Defenders, who hold our skies, defend our land, and who, with their courage and resilience, have shown the whole world that Ukrainians are a nation of the unconquered. We remember and bow to the Heroes who gave their lives for our freedom and independence.
Literary and Art Festival "Chendei-fest 2025"
Date: 21-24 June
21–24 August will be the sixth Literary and arts festival Chendey Fest 2025dedicated to popularising the works of the 20th-century Ukrainian classic, prose writer and public figure Ivan Chendei. The festival's events will take place in several cities and towns in the region: Uzhhorod, Chynadiyevo, Khust, Tiachiv, Novoselytsia and Dubove.
The festival is held under the slogan Art is a means of preserving a nation's historical identity. This will unite writers, academics, filmmakers, actors and journalists.
The programme includes literary and theatrical events, film screenings, musical performances, book presentations, excursions, panel discussions, the unveiling of a memorial plaque, and the raising of the State Flag of Ukraine on Mount Yasenova.
As part of the festival, there will be a traditional screening of a film by Sergei Parajanov. Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (co-screenwriter – Ivan Chendei), and also films by Vyacheslav Bigun The Light and Shadows of Ivan Chendei Taras Tomenko's A Sentimental Journey to Parajanov's Planet.
Funds will be raised for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during all events.
The festival is organised with the support of the Ivan Chendei International Charitable Foundation, the Department of Culture, Youth and Sports of the Uzhhorod City Council, and the Tiachiv City Council.
2) BCharity mini-fair and vernissage In Uzhhorod

From the 21st to the 22nd of August, to mark the Days of the State Flag of Ukraine and Ukraine's Independence Day, a [event] will take place on Teatralna Square in Uzhhorod. Charity mini-fair and exhibition of paintings.
The Municipal Establishment "Regional Organisational and Methodological Centre of Culture" of the Transcarpathian Regional Council will present an exhibition of works by winners of regional competitions among students from the region's art schools. A fair will also be held where Uzhhorod craftswomen and staff from the Centre of Culture will showcase motanka dolls, beaded jewellery, ceramic items, and other unique handmade goods.
The funds raised during the event will be directed towards the support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

3) Exhibition for Ukraine's National Flag Day and Independence Day

22 August 2025 at Khust City Art Gallery will take place exhibition from the gallery's collectionsThe event is timed to coincide with the celebration of Flag Day and Independence Day of Ukraine.
Visitors will have the opportunity to see works of art that reflect the spirit, strength and traditions of the Ukrainian people.
We invite everyone who is interested to join this cultural event.

4) Exhibition of Flags "Symbol of Honour, Valour and Glory"
22–23 August will take place exhibition of military unit flags from the collection of the Museum "Symbol of Honour, Valor and Glory" in Uzhhorod Castle, Tivadara Lehotskyi Regional Museum.
The exhibition is dedicated to the Day of the State Flag and the Day of Independence of Ukraine and is intended to remind of the courage and devotion of Ukrainian soldiers, of which battle flags are a symbol.
5) Exhibition projects of the Transcarpathian Regional Art Museum named after Y. Bokshai
From August 23rd, thematic exhibitions dedicated to Ukraine's Independence Day will open at the Yosyp Bokshai Transcarpathian Regional Art Museum and its branches.

These exhibitions showcase the region's unique artistic and historical heritage, reflecting the struggle for freedom and the Ukrainian people's aspirations for independence.
6) Exhibition and sale in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

- Location: Courtyard of ZOHM named after J. Bokshay (3 Zhupnatska St, Uzhhorod).
On August 23rd, an art exhibition and sale will take place in the courtyard of the Y. Bokshai Transcarpathian Regional Art Museum. The event is organised by the Transcarpathian branch of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
Visitors will be able to view and purchase works by Transcarpathian artists, contributing to a charitable cause. All proceeds will be donated to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
7) Concert by the Mukachevo Military Band celebration Ukraine's Independence Day and the Day of the State Flag of Ukraine

8) Charity event for Ukraine's National Flag Day

On 23 August, a non-governmental organisation Angel Wings together with friends, you are invited to charity event in support of 26th Regiment of the National Guard of UkraineThe event will bring together the people of Uzhhorod and visitors to the city in a shared aim – to support our defenders.
Visitors can look forward to a packed programme, a shared good deed, and an atmosphere of unity.

9) “An Encounter with Traditional Song”

The “Lis” art space (37 Fedynets Street, ground floor) invites people who value cultural heritage and their roots, who seek their identity through memories and traditions, and who dream of learning to sing naturally and authentically. The event will be of interest to those who are passionate about theatre, folklore and traditional Ukrainian culture.
The programme includes a screening of the documentary film "How the 'Gerdan' Sounds" and a workshop on traditional Transcarpathian Rusyn singing with the renowned ethno-singer Myroslava Kopynets.
10) Photo of a Patriot charity event
23–24 August, the traditional event will take place on Independence Embankment Charity event Photo of a patriot, to mark Ukraine’s National Flag Day and Independence Day.
Anyone who wishes to do so can take part in a patriotic photo shoot: you can have beautiful portraits taken in the Ukrainian style in return for a donation of your choice to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Participants can expect:
- themed photo zone with Ukrainian decor
- authentic costumes,
- the national flag as the principal symbol of unity.
All funds raised will be donated to assist the defenders of Ukraine.
Organisers are inviting photographers to join the event and are also urging all concerned individuals to share the information and support the initiative.
11) Charity Independence Day: Palanok & TeaRun

On Sunday, we will be celebrating Ukraine's Independence Day. On this occasion, two charity events will be held:
- At Palanok Castle, they will boil Victory Square.
- The only tea plantation in Ukraine will host TeaRun sports race.
This is a continuation of last year's TeaRun 2024 – which was the first tea run. This year's start has special significance: it is dedicated to and in memory of Anatolii Pasiyevich, who sadly passed away last year. The event is also joined in spirit and organisational support Fedor Sandor, currently the Ambassador of Ukraine to Hungary.
Both measures have a common goal – Raising donations to defend our country's independence.
12) Divine Liturgy in the Shelelstivska Church

On August 24th, Ukraine's Independence Day, a celebratory Divine Liturgy will be held at the Museum's Shelestivska Church. This event will serve as a spiritual highlight of the celebrations and an opportunity to unite in a common prayer for peace and good for the Ukrainian people.
Visitors can expect:
- Solemn festive liturgy.
- A prayer for Ukraine's independence and victory.
- An atmosphere of spiritual unity in a unique monument of 18th-century wooden sacred architecture.

13) Prayer for Ukraine

The Transcarpathian Folk Choir invites you to its traditional cultural and patriotic event on 24 August Prayer for Ukraine, which will take place this year near the Cathedral — on Bishop A. Bachynsky Square at 06:00. This time, residents of Uzhhorod and visitors to the city will be joined in person by friends from Europe, North and South America.
14) A patriotic concert featuring performers and the orchestra of the ‘Ukraine Resonates in the Heart’ Theatre

The programme includes performances The Academic Wind Orchestra (Director - People's Artist of Ukraine Volodymyr Spivak, Conductor - Stanislav Kerachanyn) and soloists: Honoured Artist of Ukraine Oleksandr Sadvariy, Myroslava Shvakh-Pekar and Halyna Havrylko.

16) The Big City Ride charity cycle

During the event, a charity fundraiser will be held for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

17) Uzhhorod City and Zakarpattia Oblast Open Cup "Carpathian Warriors Games"

24 September in Uzhhorod will be held Open Cup of the City and Region "Carpathian Warriors Games" among military personnel and veterans. The competition is intended to support the fighting spirit and sporting prowess of our defenders.

- Completing 30 calories on the Rogue Echo Bike in 3 minutes.
- Concept 2 rowing: maximum distance in 100 seconds.
- Bench press: bodyweight, maximum repetitions in 1 minute.
The event is organised with the support of the Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration, Uzhhorod City Council and partners.
On Independence Day, a living chain will unite Ukrainians all over the world
An extensive event for the 34th anniversary of our country's independence is planned by the initiative group of the "Chain of Unity" project. The organisers are calling on all Ukrainians abroad and people of the free world 24 August at 19:00 take to the main streets of cities and form a human chain, holding hands.
In this way, participants in the action will express support for Ukraine, draw the attention of the world community, and demonstrate the unity of our people.
