Vyshkiv Castle

The first written mention of Vyshkove and the fortress dates back to the end of the 13th century. The Hungarian King Ladislav (Laszlo) IV gave the estate to the feudal lords - brothers Mik and Stefan Czepan from the Hunt-Pazman family. In 1281, they built an earthen fortress on the Vargedi (Castle Hill), at an altitude of 600 metres, to strengthen their possessions. It served to protect the waterway on the Tisza River, which was used to supply rock salt from Solotvyno salt mines.
