Uzhansky National Nature Park
Uzhansky National Nature Park is located on the border with Poland and Slovakia. Established in 1999 on the basis of the Stuzhytsia Regional Landscape Park, Uzhansky National Nature Park is an integral part of the world's first trilateral Ukrainian-Polish-Slovak Eastern Carpathians Biosphere Reserve, which is included in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves. The area of the park is 39,159.3 hectares, of which 14,904.6 are provided for permanent use. The park is a member of the European Federation of Protected Areas "Europark".
About 900 species of higher vascular plants, more than 300 lichens, 143 bryophytes, 58 species of fungi and 164 species of algae grow in the park. The Red List of Transcarpathia includes 31 species of vascular plants. 52 species of higher plants, 5 species of algae and 21 species of lichens are included in the Red Data Book of Ukraine, and four species are included in the International Red List. There are 519 species of animals in the park, 65 of which are listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine and 27 species are included in the European Red List.
In July 2007, 6.1 thousand hectares (including 2.5 thousand hectares of the protected core) of beech forests were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List of the Carpathian Beech Forests.
Uzhansky National Nature Park has a strong recreational and tourist potential that is used throughout the year. There are many interesting natural sites on its territory. Recently, green tourism has been actively developing, measures have been taken to open pedestrian cross-border crossings with Poland and Slovakia, 17 old tourist routes have been restored, 7 ecological trails have been created, and a number of new ones are being organised.
