Nevitsky Castle

Only 12 kilometres separate Uzhhorod from the glorious Nevytskyi Castle.

The first written mention dates back to 1322, when the fortress was already the property of the Druget Counts. In total, the castle has undergone 4 major reconstructions, and the main architectural ensemble was formed in the mid-15th century.

In 1644, during the religious wars, the fortress was captured and destroyed by the Transylvanian voivode György II Rákóczi. Nowadays, only the age-old ruins evoke images of the past greatness of the impregnable Nevytsky fortress.
