Museum of Mountain Ecology and the History of Nature Management in the Ukrainian Carpathians

Museum of Mountain Ecology and the History of Nature Management in the Ukrainian Carpathians operates in the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve as an information, environmental, educational, historical and cultural centre. It is the only museum complex of its kind in Ukraine.

The museum exposition consists of two sections: "Nature of the Carpathians" and "Nature Management in the Ukrainian Carpathians".
In the first section, you can learn about the history of the Carpathian Mountains, their geology, geomorphology, main types of landscapes, flora and fauna. It is decorated with two dioramas - "Karst Cave" and "Beech Forest". The first one imitates the interior of a karst cave with stalactites and stalagmites in detail. The Beech Forest diorama represents a fragment of primeval virgin forests preserved on the limestone cliffs of Uholka, one of the massifs of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve, where trees reach gigantic sizes and are 300-500 years old.

The second part of the exhibition covers the topic of nature management in the Ukrainian Carpathians from the beginning of colonisation, which began in the late Paleolithic period, about 20,000 years ago, to the present day.
In general, the entire museum complex combines nature and culture, ancient times and a look to tomorrow, and a visit to it fills our understanding of the greatness of pristine nature and man himself as part of it with new meaning.
