On Wednesday, 10 April, a mini-sculpture of Serhiy Parajanov was unveiled near the Transcarpathian Regional Academic Music and Drama Theatre named after the brothers Yuriy-Augustine and Yevhen Sherehiy. The event was dedicated to the centenary of the birth of the Ukrainian and Armenian film director and composer.

According to local historian Oleksandr Bohdanov, the author of the work is Roman Murnyk. The mini-sculpture was placed near the Armenian memorial sign "Khachkar", next to the regional music and drama theatre.

"The pedestal, which combines a granite stone (a symbol of the artist's indestructibility) and a cry (a symbol of the struggle for truth), bears the hero's personal signature. The two books symbolise the director's best works, Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors and The Colour of Pomegranate. On top is a reel with the engraved letter "C", which in Latin symbolises the number 100 and the first letter of the name "Serhiy". The artist is holding a half pomegranate fruit, which symbolises the film," Oleksandr Bogdanov wrote on Facebook.

The sculpture to Serhiy Parajanov was unveiled with the participation of representatives of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration and Uzhhorod City Council, as well as the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Ukraine and Armenian communities in Ukraine and Transcarpathia. This is the 66th mini-sculpture in Uzhhorod.

We would like to add that Serhiy Parajanov (1924-1990), a native of Yerevan, is the author of Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, which took 1st place in the of the list of 100 best Ukrainian films. His film The Colour of Pomegranate became the basis for Lady Gaga's music video 911 and a source of inspiration for Antonio Marras' 2016 and Bichola Tetradze's 2020 clothing collections. UNESCO has declared 2024 the year of Sergei Parajanov.
