Uzhhorod photographer Mykhailo Dorohovych won silver at the New York Photography Awards 2022.
The author received an award in the People Photography - Culture nomination for his collection of works "Cultural Ethnicity of Transcarpathia".
This is reported by the newyorkphotographyawards.com.
"The unique collection of the Transcarpathian Museum of Architecture and Rural Life in Uzhhorod embodies the identity and character of the inhabitants of the smallest region of Ukraine - Transcarpathia in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. But despite this, the inhabitants of Zakarpattia, who are different ethnic groups: Ukrainians (Lemkos, Drakes, Hutsuls, and Dolyany), Hungarians, Romanians, Slovaks, Germans (Swabians), and Jews, all managed to inherit extraordinary wealth. It has been preserved in folk life, clothing and fabrics, and pottery. These are patterns and ornaments, shape and design, a wealth of colour and a wide range of its uses. Various ethnic groups of Transcarpathia lived in this territory, bounded by the Carpathian Mountains and the Tisza River, and harsh climate, but they managed to coexist peacefully for centuries, as well as preserve their identity and distinctiveness and pass it on to future generations," reads the press release of the photo contest.
