II International Theatre Festival "Drama of the Present"
From 24 February to 2 March, Uzhhorod will host the II International Theatre Festival "Drama of the Present". Six leading Ukrainian and one European theatre companies will perform on the stage of the Transcarpathian Regional Music and Drama Theatre.
During the week, the audience will see 7 different performances. Each of them is not just a play, but a creative rethinking of the events that are currently taking place in our country, said Viktor Kravchuk, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, at a briefing.
The festival opens on 24 February at 18.00 with the performance of Lavina by the Luhansk Regional Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre.
From 25 February to 1 March, the companies of the Sumy National Theatre named after M.S. Shchepkin ("Bread Truce"), the National Drama Theatre named after Maria Zankovetska ("Taming the Wayward"), the theatre centre "Slovo i Holos" from Lviv ("BARVINSKY. The Right to the Personal"), Ivano-Frankivsk National Academic Drama Theatre (Wilted Flowers Are Thrown Away), and KONTRA Theatre from Slovakia (Life Coach).
On 2 March, the Transcarpathian Regional Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre named after the brothers Y.-A. and E. Sherehiy will close the festival with its premiere performance of Richard III.
"In addition to performances, the festival will feature an exhibition of destroyed Russian equipment, a book exhibition of contemporary drama from the Transcarpathian Regional Universal Scientific Library, musical accompaniment by the Yama Theatre Orchestra and much more. Traditionally, we will be raising funds for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," added Rudolf Dzurinets.
