This week, residents and guests of Uzhhorod are invited to one of the region's most vibrant theatrical events – the "Monologues over Uzh" festival, which will take place for the sixth time.
From September 17 to 21, actors from Rivne, Kyiv, Lviv, Donetsk region, Khust, Berehove, as well as guests from Armenia, will present their performances for fans of theatrical art. In total, nine performances are planned at two locations – the Transcarpathian Regional Music and Drama Theatre and the Transcarpathian Regional Puppet Theatre.
Viewers can expect the most relevant premieres of the season from both national academic and independent troupes, who are creating a new theatre culture in wartime conditions.
At the same time, "Monologues over Uzh" is not just about performances, but also a rich educational programme. This time, thematic round tables, masterclasses, and a festival discussion club are planned with the participation of playwrights, directors, actors, theatre critics, teachers, and theatre managers. This will be an excellent opportunity for professional interaction and exchange of experience. Special attention will be given to young people – students of the Academy of Culture and Arts and participants of children's theatre studios, – the organisers announce.
Another important aspect of this year's festival is charity: during the events, the NGO "Movement to Support Transcarpathian Military – Uzhhorod" will be collecting funds for the needs of the army.
On Wednesday, September 17th, the festival programme will be opened by:
– 17:00 – premiere of the play "The Doors" based on the play by Wolfgang Borchert by the Independent Theatre "On the Third Floor" from Rivne (Transcarpathian Regional Puppet Theatre);
– 19:00 – the play "Black Bird with a White Mark", dedicated to the life and work of Vasyl Stus, by the Kyiv Academic Theatre "Koleso" (Transcarpathian Regional Music and Drama Theatre, small stage).
The founders and organisers of the festival are the Uzhhorod City Council, the Department of Culture, Youth and Sports of the Uzhhorod City Council, and the newspaper "Zakarpattia Announcements", with the support of the Department of Culture of the Zakarpattia Oblast Military Administration.
