Exhibition of cutouts by Maria Burdiak and Halyna Dudar "Lemkowyna in my heart"

On 29 April, the Transcarpathian Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Life will present an exhibition of cut-outs by Mariia Burdiak and Halyna Dudar "Lemkowyna in my heart".
The exposition is filled with stories from Lemko life, motifs of folk songs and Easter egg ornaments made in a technique reminiscent of Lemko wax painting.
Paper patterned decorations - vytynanky - spread in the interiors of Lemko houses in the mid-nineteenth century. The formation of the tradition of decorating houses with white patterned paper was due to one of the important factors - the transition from a dusty house to a semi-dusty, "clean" one. The cut-out paper curtains were hung in the corner of the house under the icon shelves, on the windows, on the bowl shelves, above the windows, doors, etc. Lemko craftsmen used white printing, stationery, and thin paper for cutting, and less often foil (mainly for wreath decorations).
This exhibition is a tribute to the memory of those who were uprooted from their native land and to the love for Lemkivshchyna that lives in the hearts of the artists. It is a tribute to the tragic pages of the Ukrainian people that took place 80 years ago - the forced eviction of autochthonous Ukrainians from Lemkivshchyna, Nadsyannya, Kholmshchyna, Southern Podlasie, Liubachivshchyna, and Western Boikivshchyna in 1944-1951.
