Cantus Choir Concert to mark the 100th anniversary of Mykhailo Krechko's birth

Mykhailo Krechko is a significant figure in the domestic musical culture. Composer, choral conductor, folklorist, educator, publicist, cultural activist, People's Artist of Ukraine.
As is known, at various times, the eminent native of our region led several well-known choral ensembles: he headed the Honoured Academic Transcarpathian Folk Choir for over 15 years, and the National Honoured Academic Choral Capella of Ukraine "Dumka" for 14 years. In 1983, he became one of the founders of a new ensemble – the State Children's Musical Theatre (now the Kyiv Municipal Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet for Children and Youth), specifically creating its choir, which he led until the end of his life.
For almost a quarter of a century, Mykhailo Mykhailovych combined his creative work with teaching, lecturing at the Department of Choral Conducting at the Kyiv State Conservatory. Among the professor's constellation of eminent students is Emyl Sokach, People's Artist of Ukraine, artistic director and conductor of the Academic Chamber Choir "Cantus".
"I am proud that while studying at the Kyiv Conservatory, I joined his class and had the opportunity to see him, communicate with him, and learn from his experience. I can say that in those years we became very close, and he was like a father to me. For me, Mykhailo Krechko is a monumental figure, an encyclopedist, an orator, a musician, a composer. As an educator, he gave his students very valuable creative guidance, which I myself have followed throughout my life – to always think and search," shared Emil Sokach.
The Academic Chamber Cantus Choir will mark the 100th anniversary of Mykhailo Krechko's birth with a concert to be held at the Y. Bokshai Transcarpathian Regional Art Museum.
9 September, 18:00
The listeners can expect a diverse programme featuring spiritual music, original compositions by Mykhailo Krechko, and his arrangements of folk songs.
