Carpathian Mountain International Film Festival
This year, the Carpathian Mountain International Film Festival will be held in Uzhhorod for the fifth time. From 20 to 22 September, the audience will be able to watch thirty full-length and short films dedicated to the mountains, sports and society.
The Carpathian Mountain International Film Festival (CMIFF) is a film festival dedicated to the theme of mountains, ecology and tourism. It is an important cultural event in western Ukraine, promoting the cultural development of cinema, expanding the tourism network and its development, raising awareness of the state of the Ukrainian environment and developing the film industry in the region.
"Every year, we prepare a programme of films made in the context of the mountains or about the mountains that are sent to us from all over the world, and every year it is unique. For example, this year we have a lot of focus on films from Ukraine about Ukrainians in the Carpathians, and we will also show two films on the important topic of adaptation and tourism in the mountains for people with disabilities. In the short documentary section about society, we have collected films about the losses during the war and reflections on it. Thus, this year's programme tells us more about ourselves, our losses, our will to live and about the mountains that heal and give us the strength to move on. That is why this year's slogan of the festival is 'Where there are mountains, there is love'," said festival director Dmytro Greshko.
The winning films of 2024 will be determined by audience voting and with the participation of the jury of the Ukrainian Film Critics Union.
The programme includes feature-length documentaries from Ukraine, the Czech Republic and France, as well as short films of various genres from more than 15 countries. Among them is the new film by Marisa Nikitiuk (When Trees Fall), the winner of LINOLEUM, and many others.

There will also be an out-of-competition screening of the Austrian medium-length film Origin by Michael Hanschmidt. This is the story of Dennis, one of the world's most respected freeride skiers. The film raises questions of identity, everyday racism and self-discovery.
The CMIFF festival will take place from 20 to 22 September in Uzhhorod at the Transcarpathian Academic Regional Puppet Theatre "Bavka".
