On 21-24 August, the literary and artistic Chendeyfest 2024 will take place in Zakarpattia. This year, the festival is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the wife of the writer, Shevchenko laureate Ivan Chendey, Maria Ivanovna, who was the artist's support and faithful companion, and the 100th anniversary of the famous film director Sergei Parajanov.
After a short break, the fifth ChandeiFest will take place in Uzhhorod, Mukachevo, Chynadiyevo, Khust and Dubove. The programme includes a dozen interesting events: awarding of the winners of the VI All-Ukrainian Ivan Chendey Short Fiction Contest, literary, cinema, theatre, music events, art performances and excursions.
During the festival, the newly published correspondence between Ivan Chendei and his wife, prepared by literary scholar Professor Sydor Kiral, will be presented. The programme also includes a dramatic reading of excerpts from the letters in Chynadiyevo's Castle of Love, Maria Chendei's native village, by famous actors Rimma Ziubina, Diana Kalandarashvili, and Yurii Onopriyko.
In the anniversary year of the director Serhiy Parajanov, the festival will screen the cult film Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, which was co-written by Ivan Chendey. The audience will also be able to watch films by Vyacheslav Bihun "Ivan Chendei's Well" and Dmytro Keshelya "Ivan Chendei. Come to my bright garden...".
Famous actors, writers and scientists will take part in Chandeyfest 2024: Serhiy Trimbach, Viacheslav Medvid, Pavlo Volvach, Oleksandr Havrosh, Roksolana Zharkova, Serhiy Fedaka and others.
The literary and artistic events will raise funds for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
