On 3 May, Uzhhorod Castle will host a charity ball to raise funds for 6-year-old Oleg Rygan. The boy, who suffers from a rare disease - Duchenne muscular dystrophy, needs life-saving treatment - an injection worth $3 million. The programme of the ball includes vocal and choreographic performances from the Academy of Culture and Arts, Uzhhorod School of Arts, and dance schools of the city. A school from Onokivtsi, where the boy and his family live, will also take part.<\/p>\n
During the ball, there will be an auction of paintings, sweets and cakes from the Onoki school will be sold. The audience will be able to throw their contributions into special boxes.<\/p>\n
At the end of November last year (2024), the NGO Volunteers of Transcarpathia issued an appeal to raise funds for Olezhyk Ryhan, the son of military serviceman Valeriy Ryhan. In March 2023, the boy was diagnosed with a rare disease - Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The diagnosis was confirmed at the regional clinical hospital, and tests were carried out in a laboratory in Germany. The doctors determined that the child was suitable for gene therapy, Elevidys, a one-time injection that prevents the disease from progressing and improves the child's condition, but it costs $3 million.
