Annual traditional Hutsul ritual festival "Mira"

"Mira is an annual traditional Hutsul ritual festival held in the Rakhiv Hutsul region. It is an ancient Hutsul tradition. During the celebration, local residents drive their sheep into a common flock, and then shepherds drive the cattle to a meadow, where they graze the sheep for 4-5 months, milk them, and make cheese and vurda from the milk, and bryndza, the "white gold" of the Carpathians, is made from the cheese.
During the Mira festival, local residents bring their sheep to a common flock where they are milked. The milk is then brought to the chief shepherd, who takes control measurements. Then they record this data for each sheep. All this is done so that the shepherds know how much cheese they will have to give to the owners for the season. This is called "ryid".
In late September and early October, there is a holiday called "Rozduchenia". Then all the people gather and take their cattle.
"For the Hutsuls, Mira is the biggest ritual holiday of the year and marks the beginning of the polonyna cycle and the tradition of sheep breeding in general. Traditionally, it takes place during the holiday of St George.
The traditions of the shepherd's holiday "Mira" of the Yasinia community are included in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The beginning of the measure is announced by the sound of a trembita, followed by a prayer and the "measure" begins. You can find out what happens next and how they determine how much of their "ryida" should be taken, as well as learn about the history and traditions of sheep breeding in the Hutsul region and in Kvasy, accompanied by colourful musicians, in Saturday, 24 May at the festival "Hutsul measure on the Rosenthal Eco-Farm - Kvasy", which will start at 14:00 in the Pikuy tract (Beriznyk) on a sheep farm.
