Hamora Forge Museum
The operating smithy is a unique monument of blacksmithing craft, the originality of which lies in the fact that the force of falling water from the Lysychanka River is used to drive heavy blacksmith hammers in the manufacture of agricultural iron products. Blacksmiths used to work in this way in the past.
The smithy was built in the early nineteenth century. A dam was built on the river to store water in a reservoir. Through a diversion channel, water was directed to the blades of the forge's wheels, which drove forging hammers weighing up to 125 kg. Under their blows, metal ingots were turned into blanks for shovels, hoes, plough parts, etc. Four hammers were once operated by 16 craftsmen who were able to forge, in addition to simple tools used by peasants, parts for metal fencing, metal beds and other products that were in great demand not only in the region but also far beyond its borders.
The smithy worked almost without interruption until the time of Soviet collectivisation. Now it exists as a museum.
